Brandon Isaac, Free Mind - Home Is What Matters Most

Home is What Matters Most”

The music portion of this project is finally complete. This EP drops June 30th.

This project is response art born from conversations with teens at Aiken High School about their neighborhoods, what’s shaping them, and where they come from. I took those stories and held them next to my own; my experiences as a teenager, my family history, my roots and let it all become music.

I brought my best friend and producer @demetriusclayton_ out of retirement to lay the soundscape. Six soul samples. Six songs. All of it recorded in my pops’ basement over the course of a school year. Me and Free are really proud of this work. We feel like this is an offering to our community and to our ancestors. This will be our 4th project together.

The cover art was created by Englyn Logan, a 10th grader at Aiken High School. She drew herself standing at a bus stop near her home. She said the piece is about how much can be happening inside one household and how sometimes you just want to get away from everything.

I’ve been that person in that drawing. I’ve wanted to escape. But the older I get, the more I understand home is what matters most. And no matter where you go on this earth you have to deal with yourself. There is no running from you. There is no running from home.
