junclassic - one word all small letters
one word all small letters is a reference to my rap name junclassic. It often gets capitalized, or the words jun and classic are separated. jun is short for Junior. I’ve been Junior all my life. Anybody who knows me knows me calls me jun, even my Momma (pronounced June). And classic represents the timeless music i’ve always wanted to make. junclassic is all small letters because i’ve never been a pompous dude. I’m not flashy. I prefer for the listener to pay attention to the words and the messages moreso than the person delivering them.
This EP is a rollercoaster of emotion. The first track starts on a bright note. I heard that beat by Chin Beats and immediately thought of “Sunshine” by De La Soul. That beat makes me happy. I think many of us trying to make it out here can relate to the hook. The 2nd joint is a testament to how we have to be in it to win it, even when we ain’t feeling it. The 3rd track was recorded in 2012 when I worked on Better Than Fiction Too, produced by my man wun two. It didn’t fit that album so I found a place for it here because I love that beat. The 4th track is the most recent track recorded. It reflects the last few years, which have been difficult as my parents have been going through it, and that has changed my outlook on a lot of things. The 5th track, produced by my man Squires, is a concept I been sitting on. Just needed a dope beat to bring it out. And the final track was recorded years ago. Chopped Herring took a serious liking to it and pressed it on wax. I’m thankful to have some in my possession which are now for sale and ready to ship.
Tracks 1, 2, and 5 mixed and mastered by Squires. Tracks 3 and 6 mixed and mastered by Timepiece Tracks. Track 4 mixed and mastered by Krohme. Artwork courtesy of my Bro J Slikk, who suggested I use it as a cover.
Photography by junclassic. I can relate to that bird sitting on that wire all alone with everything gray around him.
