Video Dave - Old Chicago Stadium
The ghosts of the Old Chicago Stadium still haunt Madison street between Wood and Damen
You won’t see them when you walk past on game day
But they’re still there
Police on horse back, with no riot gear body cams or long guns, just batons and scowls
They’re watching as neighborhood folks with fistfuls of cash stand on Damen Ave telling people to park station wagons in their front yards
People are selling t shirts, buttons, and cotton candy on every corner
They rip a piece of your ticket as you have to go thru a turnstile at the door
Clowns and elephants are still there parading past center ice
Cartoon skaters at half court, acrobats swinging from the scoreboard
Team captains drinking beers and eating hotdogs, fans in the locker room
Banners are still hanging from the rafters
Paint is still chipping on the railings
You can’t see it from inside another building
You have to be outside; tasting the air, seeing the stars
You have to be looking at where it stood
The statue doesn’t get to see; lonely solitary prisoner of the atrium
Right there across the street but facing the wrong way
Unable to turn his head and look back on his glory days
Even when there’s nothing to look towards, and there’s nobody else around
